Duo MoMArt Back at the National Museum

At the beginning of July, the duo MoMArt held an exceptionally well-attended concert at the National Museum. As a gift to the audience, we are hosting another concert on Wednesday, August 11, starting at 7 PM.

The duo MoMArt consists of oboist Jasna Brandšteter and guitarist Maja Radovanlija.

About the Artists

Oboist Jasna Brandšteter, who grew up in a musical family in Belgrade, studied in Cologne and Paris at the National Conservatory Superior, where she graduated and earned her master’s degree on all three instruments from the oboe family, with the highest honors. Her career as a soloist and member of various orchestras and ensembles includes performances and collaborations with the Symphony Orchestra of Galicia in Spain, the State Opera of Finland, the Modern Ensemble, the Saint George String Quartet, the RTS Orchestra, the Dušan Skovran Ensemble, and German public broadcasters VDR, NDR, SVR, WDR, as well as many other ensembles and orchestras in Germany, where she regularly performs as a guest soloist. Central to her work is the performance of new works by exciting composers of our time. Her collaboration with contemporary composers has inspired some of them to write solo and chamber pieces for her instruments. With her impressive interpretation of Diptych op. 166 for English horn and strings by Serbian composer Dejan Despić, she was awarded the Stevan Mokranjac Award by the Association of Composers of Serbia. Through her initiative to promote contemporary music from Serbia and the Balkans, she launched a series of publications of Serbian composers and their works in MVB sheet music publishing in Germany. Jasna is passionately dedicated to pedagogy and is a professor of oboe and chamber music in Cologne, Germany.

Guitarist Maja Radovanlija was born in Belgrade, where she graduated from the Music Academy and earned her master’s degree and doctorate at Indiana University in America. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Serbia, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Macedonia, Greece, Switzerland, China, Thailand, and America. Since 2012, she has been a permanent member of the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet, with whom she regularly performs across America. In addition to classical music, Maja regularly performs works by contemporary composers and collaborates with new music ensembles, such as the Studio 6 Ensemble, Improvizando, and the Satu Djiva Collective, among others. She also engages intensively in improvisation and experimental music in collaboration with numerous artists. Maja lives and works in Minneapolis, where she is a professor of guitar and improvisation at the University of Minnesota.

The duo MoMArt, consisting of these two artists, began their collaboration last year on a project of the same name. The project promotes contemporary music arranged and written for their duo.
