Icons by Živko Pavlović from the Bukovik Church in Aranđelovac.

By the decision of the Šumadija Bishop, Mr. Jovan, in 2018, the National Museum in Aranđelovac was entrusted with the permanent custody of the icons from the former iconostasis of the Bukovik Church. The task of painting the icons was assigned to Živko Pavlović, one of the most significant painters of the fifth decade of the 19th century in the Principality of Serbia.

After the conservation-restoration treatment carried out by conservator-restorer Jelena Ivanišević and her team, with financial resources allocated for this project by the Ministry of Culture and Information, important and interesting findings were made. Namely, the icons from the old Bukovik iconostasis had been repainted several times. The ongoing dialogue between the art historian of the National Museum, Tanja Vincentić, and the conservator-restorer Jelena Ivanišević contributed to the discovery of the authentic painted layer, made according to the templates of Živko Pavlović and his workshop. In the monograph about the Bukovik Church, which will soon be published, we present a series of new scientific insights into the work of this notable artist.
