In the science, research, and discovery magazine Planet, issue 89 (March–April), readers will find an interesting article on the Risovača Cave titled “Deceived Dragonflies.” The article covers the history of the cave’s research and the findings made by numerous scientists, from archaeologists and geologists to paleontologists, over decades of work.
The article states that “this cave is the best-researched of all caves in Serbia and the most thoroughly studied as an archaeological-paleontological-speleological site. It is considered one of the five caves in the Balkans where Neanderthal prehistoric humans lived…”

Additionally, the article’s author highlights ongoing research on the living world within the protected area of Risovača. This is a project initiated by the National Museum in collaboration with the Museum of Natural History in the fall of 2018. “As part of the study, an assessment will be presented on the population and endangered status of strictly protected and protected wild plant, animal, and fungi species in Serbia…”
The second phase of this significant scientific research project is planned for 2019.
